Bessie L. Schreck, 90, of Wayland, MO, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO.
She was born on July 1, 1921 in Clark County Missouri, the youngest child of Larry and Laura Agnes Hines Hayden. On August 4, 1940, Bessie was united in marriage to George H. Schreck in Kahoka, MO and they spent thirty-seven years together realizing their dream of farming and raising a family. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1977.
Bessie graduated from Wayland High School at the age of fifteen.
She was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Church and Alter Society in Wayland, MO.
Bessie was an avid reader and skilled quilter and seamstress. Her beautiful creations grace many homes. Her life revolved around home and family. She liked to garden and loved flowers. She also liked antiques, furniture and glassware. She was an excellent family historian and enjoyed making scrapbooks for her children and grandchildren. Widowed at an early age, she had become an astute business woman and steward of the land.
She is survived by three daughters, Georgia Schilling of Trenton, MO, Barbara Martin of Stanton, KY and Kathy Stark and her husband Darrell of Ponca City, OK, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Madonna Hayden Perry, numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Franklin, Bernard, Wesley and Robert, four sisters, Thelma Young, Maggie Clark, Ada Campbell and Anna Schreck and two sons in law, Steven Martin and Max Schilling.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 9 at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Wayland, MO with Father Paul Hartley officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, MO.
