Obituary

Bernice J. Gabel, 87 of Keokuk died Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born October 2, 1926 in Keokuk the daughter of Warren and Daisey Frakes Jobe. Bernice was first married to Ed Pfeiferling. They divorced. She then married Gerry Young until he was killed in an automobile accident. On November 1, 1961 she was united in marriage to Eugene Gabel in Kahoka, MO. He survives. Other survivors include three sons, Dr. Terrance Gabel and his wife Edith of Monmouth, IL, Michael Young of Keokuk and Gary Pfeiferling and his wife Patty of Keokuk, one grandson, Leonard Gabel and two brothers, Ray Jobe and his wife Margie of Keokuk and Donald Jobe of Warsaw, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Ruby, Pansy, and Mildred, and three brothers, Leonard, Ralph, and Eddie. In her early years, Bernice had been employed with her sister at Cales Vogue and the Grand Hotel in Keokuk. She was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk. Bernice enjoyed bowling and had joined a womens league, where she served as the secretary of the league. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday May 9th 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk.
