Bernice J. Christy, 99, of Keokuk, IA, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on Jun 26, 1910 in Argyle, IA the daughter of Charlie and Ella Hendershot Richey. Bernice married Ferris Christy in 1953 in Mt. Pleasant, IA. He preceded her in death in 1992. She had been employed at the Button Factory in Keokuk, IA. Bernice attended the Wayland Baptist Church in Wayland, MO. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She loved music and played the piano and mandolin. Bernice was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and cherished the times she spent with her family. She is survived by one son, Roger Christy and his wife Patty of Alexandria, MO, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Ruth Christy of Texas, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also preceded in death by one son, Leo Joe Christy, one daughter, Holly Christy, one grandson, Joseph Christy, and two sisters, Ruby LaFever and Garnet Holland. A memorial service was held Wednesday, April 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Rev. Daniel Fox officiating. Burial will be in the Argyle Memorial Park rural Argyle, IA at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family.
