Bernadine Gail Bennett Loeffler, 87 of rural Keokuk, IA died Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born in Keokuk on July 26, 1926 the daughter of Charles and Enid Colvin Bennett. On December 24, 1944 Bernadine was united in marriage to Roger E. Loeffler. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1994. Bernadine graduated from Keokuk Senior High with the Class of 1943. She lived all her life on the family farm in rural Keokuk which has been owned by her family for over 100 years. She was baptized at the First Christian Church of Keokuk, IA. Bernadine's life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She was a great mentor to her grandchildren, spending many hours crafting with them and helping them with their homework. Bernadine was an avid reader. She could speed read and often read two-three books a week. She also kept up with the news and was always on top of current affairs. She greatly loved all her animals but none had a greater place in her heart than her last dog, P.D. (Petie). She is survived by one daughter, Jami L. Loeffler of Muscatine, IA, one son, Jon R. Loeffler and his wife Jane of Keokuk, three grandchildren, Laura Keller (Marlon) of Keokuk, Jennifer Conard (Jeff) of St. Louis, MO and Jame Hayes (Amanda) of Muscatine, five great-grandchildren, Brandon Conard, Audri Briggs, Maddie Keller, Andrew and Macy Hayes, one great-great-grandchild, Camden Briggs and one sister-in-law, Mary Seabold of Keokuk. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Bennett, Jr. Memorial Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21st, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend David Turner officiating. Burial was in the Little Mound Cemetery in rural Keokuk. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
