Barbara Jean Rogers LaBoon, AKA "Susy, Maude, Nanie, Mamma, Mimsy, G.G., Man Magnet", 92nd level, passed away peacefully at her home in Keokuk, IA on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.
She was born on August 6, 1925 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Walter John and Gladys Bergier Rogers. She was second of 6 brothers and sisters: John, Robert, Carolyn, Don, and Donna. Susy graduated from Kansas State University and taught school in St. Francis, KS.
On August 21, 1949, Susy married Van Lincious LaBoon. They had 3 children: John, Sue, and Polly. She travelled with Van around the Northwest to Riverton, WY, Idaho Falls, ID, Coalville & Ogden, UT, Vancouver, WA, Baker, OR, Winchester, KY, and Penn Laird, VA. They retired to Corpus Christi, TX where they lived for 27 years until his death in 2002. Susy moved to Keokuk, IA in 2003.
Susy was a homemaker, "domestic goddess", wife, mother, bridge player, avid reader, crossword puzzler, and volunteer extraordinaire. She was a girl scout, and taught girls and the leaders of girls everything from fire building to self-confidence.
At 60 Susy took a formal quilting class and became a die-hard quilter and instructor. She was a member of the Victoria Quilting Guild which supported the the Houston International Quilt Festival. She served in the education department for 20 years, helping to start additional quilt shows in Chicago, IL & Long Beach, CA. She shared her talents and her quilts live with many people. Susy traveled often. She was interested in the people and places around her both in the past and present. Her interests also included a rigorous regimen of local and national politics. She was a creative, generous, adventurous, soul who showed us all how to be wise, to be kind, and to love.
The memorial service was held at Vigen Memorial Home at 1:00pm Monday, November 13, 2017.
