Obituary

Arthur Edward Wittich, 77, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on February 3, 1932 in Keokuk, IA, the son of John L. and Hazel F. Dodge Wittich. He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1952. Arthur was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He had been employed at Shutts Garage in Keokuk. He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA. Arthur was a Christian man and devoted American. He was a proud man and took pride in everything from his garden to his family. Arthur enjoyed tinkering on lawn mowers and working around the house. He also enjoyed playing card and board games, driving around town and walking through Oakland Cemetery. Arthur loved his family very much. He is survived by one sister, Harriett Wittich of Keokuk, two nephews, Dan Wittich and his wife, Donna, of Keokuk and John Wittich and his wife, Jeanne, of Elkhorn, KS, two nieces, Nancy McDaniel and her husband, Leroy, of Donnellson, IA and Patty McPherson and her husband, Randy, of West Burlington, IA, eleven great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Phillip Wittich and one sister-in-law, Loretta Wittich. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend John Tyler officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA.
