Arthur Joseph Humphrey, 71, of Keokuk, IA, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.
He was born on June 3, 1935 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Frank and Iola Boline Humphrey. On May 24, 1968 Arthur was united in marriage to Sara Dickinson Grogan at the First Christian Church in Hamilton, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Anne Edwards and her husband Chris of Solon, IA, Mary Lou Sadler and her husband Ron of Warner Robins, GA, Teresa Whitaker and her husband Brad of Keokuk, IA, and Katie Murphy and her husband Phillip of Muscatine, IA, seven grandchildren, Mary Dan Edwards, Gretchen Jenny Sadler, Ben Will Whitaker and Tobey Murphy, two sisters, Lelia Stevens and her husband Clayton of Bovey, MN and Verna Viebrock of Forest City, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Beverly Marian Dickinson and an infant son, Samuel in 1971.
Arthur graduated from Keokuk Senior High with the Class of 1954.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1958 – 1964. He served in Fort Sill, OK and in Germany with the Red Stone Missile Group.
He had been employed at the Hubinger Company/Roquette America for thirty-three years and retired in 1996. He was a member of the Local 48 American Federation of Grain Millers.
Arthur was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Keokuk, IA. One of his greatest joys was being part of the building of the new church.
He enjoyed the river and waterskiing and had always owned a boat ever since he was a young man. He loved old cars and enjoyed restoring them. He enjoyed taking an evening drive to look for deer. Most of all he enjoyed his family, grandkids and all the friends he had made over the years including his Hy-Vee Coffee Club buddies.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 12 at the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA, with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
