Arthur "Art" William Finton, 49, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at his home.
He was born on November 20, 1956 in Keokuk, IA the son of Albert and Harriet Collier Finton. He married Delores Dohmen on February 13, 1980 in Nebraska and they shared twenty-two years of marriage.
Art graduated from the Keokuk High School with the Class of 1974.
As a young man, Art helped farm and worked with his dad in the Landscaping and Nursery business. He was then employed in road construction and with RC Cola in Nebraska. Later he worked for Asplundh, Liguigreen Landscaping and Lawn Care and RJS Construction. For the last eighteen years, Art had been the owner/operator of Art Finton's Tree Service (King Aruthur's) in Keokuk, IA. He was committed to his community and created fundraisers through his business so that he could make donations to area charities.
He was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, IA and also attended the Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk.
Art loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved being outdoors working on landscaping projects and going fishing. He enjoyed riding his Harley and collecting Harley-Davidson memorabilia. Art also enjoyed writing poetry and had filled many notebooks with his writings. He was a people person and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Art loved his family very much and treasured the time he was able to spend with them. Most of all, Art loved the Lord and spent many hours reading the Bible and taking comfort from the scriptures during his illness.
He is survived by his daughter, Tina Sargent of Keokuk, IA, two grandchildren, Carson and Alaina Sargent of Keokuk, IA, his ex-wife and friend, Delores Finton of Keokuk, IA, one sister, Donna Lehman of Adair, IA, three half-brothers, Jerry Finton and Bill Finton both of Warsaw, IL, and John Finton of Ft. Madison, IA, three half-sisters, Verla Robison and Rose Percival both of Warsaw, IL, Vivian Boyd of Keokuk, IA, a special friend Sheryll McCullough of Keokuk, IA, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Cory Finton on July 5, 2003, his parents and four half-sisters, Alice Lamborn, Daisy Ashworth, Maxine Gronewald and Susan Finton.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser and Pastor Craig Burton officiating. A private family burial was held in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
