Armon Faire Eaton Van Hesley, 87, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Keokuk Area Hospital. She was born on November 10, 1921 in Brooklyn, IA, the daughter of Harry Alonzo and Florence Flaig Eaton. On June 28, 1940, Armon was united in marriage to Henry B. Van Hesley in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2005. She graduated from Keokuk High School in Keokuk, IA. Armon was employed many places throughout her life. She was Clerk of Superior Court, Flower Arranger at Woolworth's, Clerk at Mode O'Day, and Secretary and Bookkeeper at Beaty Machine Works. She worked on several charitable organizations. She served as President of PTA at Jefferson School and also as City President of PTA. Armon was named Most Valiant Woman in 1976. She was instrumental in organizing the clothes closet in Keokuk in the 1970's. She became a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk in 1936 and taught in the nursery for over 30 years. She was President of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class. Armon was instrumental in accepting the challenge of mission work in Attala County, Mississippi, making many trips to Kosciusko, Mississippi taking much needed items to the poverty stricken people. She was active in several local Bible Studies and prayer groups and hosted many programs on Christ Vision, Channel 13. She, along with her husband Bud, enjoyed their summer residence at Lazy Daz Ranch, Lake Rathbun, Melrose, IA. She loved to sew for her family and did many craft projects including leather craft and ceramics. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce McGraw and her husband Roger of Galesburg, IL, and Camella Achelpohl of Keokuk, IA, one grandson, Terry McGraw of Galesburg, IL, one sister-in-law, Doris Holben of Keokuk, and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles Eaton and Elmore Eaton and one sister, Fern Ryder. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 25 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Emmanuel Dass officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or the Keokuk Humane Society.
