Obituary

Arlo Gene Parker, 79 of Liberty, IL died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, MO. He was born on January 6, 1935 in Ft. Madison, IA the son of Lyle and Leona Repplinger Parker. After graduating from high school, Gene furthered his education at Monmouth College where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He then went to Kirksville Teacher's College where he earned his Master's Degree. Gene had been employed at Camp Point High School in Camp Point, IL as a teacher and taught business law, computer and typing classes for thirty-one years, until his retirement in 1990. He also did accounting and taxes for Starr's Garage in Nauvoo for many years. He loved to collect antique cars, refinish antique furniture and spend time outdoors in his flower and vegetable garden. He is survived by one sister, Marcia Means and her husband Arnold of Ballwin, MO, one nephew, Randy Means and his wife Rhonda of Overland Park, KS, two great-nieces, Shelly Means and Tara Means and one great-great-nephew, Andrew Means. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church with Pastors Mark Anderson and Mark Lowman officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church.
