Arlene W. VanAusdall, 84, of Keokuk, IA, died at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. She was born on February 28, 1921 in Yarmouth, IA, the daughter of Edger R. and Daisy Sams Walker. She married Kenneth Shutt on April 2, 1944 in Mediapolis, IA. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1978. She married C. Max Laubersheimer on August 10, 1985 in New Boston, IA. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1994. On March 12, 1995, Arlene was united in marriage to Howard VanAusdall in new Boston, IA. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Karen Hempen of Argyle, IA and Janet Rosenau and her husband Vernon of Elyria, OH, one son, Douglas Shutt and his wife Mary of Aurora, CO, one son-in-law, Ron Ellison of Greenville, SC, one step-daughter, Patricia Welsh of Bourbonnais, IL, one step-son, John VanAusdall and his wife Marian of Spring Branch, TX, thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Kenneth Walker of Prescott, AZ, Randall Walker and his wife Barb of Burlington, IA, one sister, Wanda Lane of Mediapolis and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Ellison. Arlene graduated from Mediapolis Consolidated Schools in Mediapolis, IA in 1938. She attended business school in Denver, CO. In 1947, she & her first husband, Kenneth moved to Keokuk and operated an auto business on 18th and Main, known as Shutts Radiator-Auto Repair and Sales. She was a faithful member of the Bethel Bible Church in Argyle, IA and was active until recent years, but always attended regularly. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also liked to read and sew, enjoyed music and was an excellent cook. Her family was her pride and joy and she treasured the times she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Clegguart Mitchell and Reverend Vernon Rosenau officiating. Private family burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA at a later date. A memorial has been established in memory of Arlene VanAusdall at Baptist Mid-Missions.
