Obituary

Anna "Jean" Jinkens, 89 of Keokuk, IA died Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at River Hills in Keokuk.

She was born April 26, 1933 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Hollis Dale and Estella Blanche Maggart Hagerman. She graduated from Wayland High School with the class of 1951.

On September 16, 1951 Jean was united in marriage to Kirk H. Jinkens. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2002.

Jean had been a member and past president of the Keokuk BPW. She was also a member of the Keokuk "Red Hats" Ladies, the Clark County Missouri Friendly Neighbors FCE Club, the KAH Auxiliary and Wayland United Methodist Church.

She was an owner of a century farm in Wayland, MO and they raised watermelon and cantaloupe. When she was young, they would ship them out by rail. Then for a ten year period, until 1993 Jean and her family produced watermelon and cantaloupe.

Jean began her banking career at State Central Bank as a cashier and rose to Vice President, where she worked until her retirement in 2004 after fifty plus years of employment.

She enjoyed watching men's professional basketball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Jean played an instrumental role in establishing the Keokuk Farmer's Market.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Jane Laffoon (Robert) of Wayland, MO, two grandchildren, Heidi Laffoon and Lindsey Jones (Tom), four great-grandchildren, Trenton Hauk (Deondra), Alyssa Hauk, Mallory Jones and Kinley Jones, two great-great-grandchildren, Taryn and Trysten Hauk, two step-great-great-grandchildren, Tayten Smith and Trinity Labonte and a foreign exchange student, who she thought of as family, Lena Carlsson of Sweden.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, William and Ida Hagerman and Jesse and Maude Maggart and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on December 30, 2022, at the Wayland United Methodist Church. Burial was held in the Frazee Cemetery in Alexandria, MO.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on December 29, 2022, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with family meeting with friends at that time.

Memorials may be made to the Wayland United Methodist Church.
