Obituary

Anna Louise Apple, 88, of Billings, Montana, formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, died Sunday December 13, 2009, at Valley Health Care Center in Billings, MT, after a long struggle with declining health. She was born on February 10, 1921, in Clark County, Missouri, the daughter of Ernest Franklin and Anna Ethel Overhulser Turtle. Anna married Lloyd D. Apple on February 15, 1942, in Keokuk, and they shared 67 wonderful years together. He survives. Other survivors include sons Larry Apple and his wife Mary of Billings and Gary Apple and his wife Kimberly of Aberdeen, Maryland; grandchildren Brian Apple of Kissimmee, Florida, Jessica Apple, Shannon Apple and Christopher Apple all of the Baltimore, Maryland, area; step-granddaughters Mandy Baxter, Ann Aksamit, and Erin Osborne all of Sheridan, Wyoming, brother Harold Turtle and his wife Helen of Keokuk, sister Gertrude Yablonski of Reno, Nevada, brother-in-law Ross Apple and his wife Rosemary of Quincy, Illinois, sisters-in-law, Philomene Turtle of Keokuk and Ethel Turtle of Chehalis, Washington, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Helen and brothers Howard and Floyd. Anna graduated from Keokuk High School. She worked at Graham Hospital in Keokuk for 16 years. Anna was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk for 77 years, the Friendly Class and M and M Circle of the church. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a 50-year member of Rebekahs. Anna enjoyed craftwork and was an excellent quilter and seamstress. She also loved to cook and bake. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Funeral services were held at 11a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA with Rev. William Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA.
