View Video Tribute Alvin Eugene DePew, 71, of Montrose, IA, died Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on March 6, 1935 in Palmyra, MO, the son of Emil C. and Doris Starkey DePew. On December 31, 1981 Alvin was united in marriage to Anita Vermazen in Keokuk, IA. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Scott DePew and his wife Rose Marie of Keokuk, IA, Patrick DePew and his wife Cyndi of Farmington, AR, and Tim DePew of Minneapolis, MN, three daughters, Chris Showalter and her husband Jim, Jr of Eaton, IN, Tara DePew and her fiancé Aaron Thompson of Marion, IA and Tina Parks and her husband Glen of Muscatine, IA, one step-son, Mark Davis and his wife Beth of St. Louis, MO, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his mother-in-law Margaret Vermazen of Montrose, IA, a sister-in-law Wanda DePew of Harrisburg, IL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Earl and Emil Depew, and two sisters, Dorothy and Sue Brown. Alvin attended the Hickory Grove School during his elementary years and graduated with the Keokuk High School Class of 1953. He had been employed at Ralph's 88 and Robo Car Wash in Keokuk, IA and Tallarico Appliance in Keokuk during his younger years. He then was employed at Roquette in Keokuk, IA for thirty-five years, retiring in 1996. After his retirement he worked for the City of Montrose, Iowa for nine years. He was a member of the Grain Millers Local 48. Alvin enjoyed planting and growing a large vegetable garden each year. He also enjoyed fishing and boating. Alvin liked to get out and be with people. He was a friend to all and was always willing to render any service needed to help others. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 7 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Preston Smith officiating. Burialwas in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
