Alta M. Stockwell, 86, of Cypress, TX formerly of Montrose, IA died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Cypress Assisted Living in Cypress, TX.
She was born June 16, 1927 in Montrose, IA the daughter of Albert E. and Carma Wright Allen. On June 30, 1945 she was united in marriage to Hubert Stockwell in Ft. Madison, IA. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2012.
Alta was a member of the Montrose Church of Nazarene. She had an unwavering and deep faith in God and loved her church.
Alta was a wonderful cook and everyone loved to come to her house to eat. She enjoyed the beautiful flowers that her husband grew in his garden. Alta had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes. She loved sparkly clothes and jewelry and the sparkles in her wardrobe reflected the sparkle in her personality. Alta was a good friend to many and brightened their lives with her smile and grace. She was a loving wife and mother who spent her life making a wonderful home for her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Carma Amos and her husband Earl of Cypress, TX, Cheryl DelVe and her husband Robert of Rancho Mirage, CA and Rebecca Wathan and her husband Terry of Durant, IA, three grandchildren, Michelle Bartlett, Stanley Stockwell, Jr., and Heather Johnson, nine great-grandchildren, Thomas Bartlett, Jr., Larynne Bartlett, Dakota Stockwell, Kyla Stockwell, Rachel Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Jr. and Joshua Johnson.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Stanley Stockwell, three brothers, Ethan Allen, Charles Allen and Patrick Allen and one sister, Betty Fruehling.
Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 22nd, 2014at the Montrose Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Preston Smith officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA.
