Alfred E. Rose, 83 of Wilcox Township, Warsaw, IL, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at his home. He was born on June 4, 1929 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Hubert K. and Mary Bernhardt Rose. On September 21, 1954, Alfred was united in marriage to Emily Rein at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Keokuk. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Harmon (Joe) of Warsaw, IL, Christina Dury (Claude) of Des Moines, IA and Mary Jo Mills of Keokuk, one granddaughter, Larissa Price of Chicago, IL, three grandsons, Ian Price (Michelle) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Tyler Mills of Keokuk, and Ryan Mills of Albuquerque, NM, one great-grandson, Isaac Price of Cedar Rapids, one brother, Hubert K. Rose, Jr. of Warsaw and one nephew, Mike Rose (Marie) of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister in infancy, one nephew, Larry Rose, one sister-in-law, Merle Rose and one great-nephew, David Rose. Alfred was a lifelong resident of Warsaw, IL and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw where he served as a trustee. A farmer for his entire lifetime, he often woke before dawn to tend to his cattle or work in the fields, often only stopping at sundown. Always a hard worker, Alfred also drove a school bus for the Warsaw School District for fifteen years and was an independent contractor. From 1967 – 1998 Alfred served as the Road Commissioner of Wilcox Township. Alfred enjoyed mushroom hunting and tinkering with machinery. He was a great story teller and could entertain his family and friends for hours with his stories. A Memorial Mass was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19th, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw with Father Tony Trosley officiating. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
