Alfred Warren "Rick" Rickert, 83, of Keokuk, died Thursday, January 20, 2005 at the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA. He was born March 5, 1921 in Keokuk, IA the son of John and Anna Schaefer Rickert. He married Doris Marie Royal on June 22, 1952 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA. She survives. Other survivors include one son: John Rickert and his wife Julie of Minot, ND, one daughter: Patricia Rickert and her husband Roger Pepple of Iowa City, IA, one granddaughter: Madeline Rickert and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister: Mary Seyb and one brother: Conrad Rickert. Alfred was a lifelong resident of Keokuk, graduating from the Keokuk High School with the Class of 1939. He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk and the American Legion Post # 41. He was employed by the Clark Aircraft Repair in Keokuk, IA for several years before his retirement in 1975. Alfred was a retired aircraft mechanic and a veteran of World War II. He served with the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group (Heavy), 493rd Bomb Squadron as an airplane maintenance technician and propeller specialist in the China, Burma, and India Theater of Operation. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He enjoyed operating his radio controlled model airplanes, and loved to repair and restore Volkswagens. Funeral services were held at 1:30 P.M. Monday, Jan. 24, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Hoyt Whitebread officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, IA. Memorials were established for the Keokuk Area Hospital Foundation and the American Legion.
