View Video Tribute Albert "Ike" Schwab, 86, of Keokuk, IA died Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on August 20, 1922 in Keokuk, IA, the son of George Edward and Ella Louise Van Doren Schwab. On February 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Auge at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ft. Madison, IA. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2000. Ike graduated from the Keokuk High School with the Class of 1941 and played on the school's first golf team. Ike was a veteran of the United States Air Force during WW II and had been stationed in England. He was employed with the City of Keokuk and retired in 1985 as Superintendent of the Parks Department. He was a 50 year member of the Keokuk Elks Club, lifetime member of the VFW Post 3508 and a member of the American Legion Post #41. Ike was a talented athlete. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. In his younger years he played third base for the Conoco Oilers fast pitch softball team. Ike is survived by three sons, Kenneth L. Schwab and his wife Susan of Wentzville, MO, Thomas R. Schwab and his wife Sherry of Waterloo, IL, and Gary L. Schwab and his wife Brenda of Keokuk, IA, a special friend, Lois Henson of Keokuk, IA, two sisters, Irene Carter and her husband Jerome of Plant City, FL, and Shirley Daughters and her husband Leroy of Phoenix, AZ and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Edward Schwab, Jr and James F. Schwab. Graveside services with military rites were held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 19 at the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Keokuk High School Fitness Center.
