Alan Keith Johnson of Canton, MO died May 7, 2019 surrounded by his family at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Alan "Al" Johnson was born June 4, 1937 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL to Aaron Johnson and Iva Wood. He spent his childhood between his parents, relatives, and boarding schools. He graduated from Venice High School in Culver City, CA in 1954.
While working as an apprentice draftsman at Climax Engine and Pump Manufacturing Co., he met the love of his life Jacqueline "Jackie" Moore. They were married on March 3, 1957 at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, IA.
After becoming engaged, he went to work at Gale products in Galesburg and was a spray painter for Johnson Autoboard Motor. In 1967, he went to work as manager for Eagles in Quincy, IL. He transferred to Eagles in Burlington, IA in 1991 and continued to work there until his retirement in 1998. Known for his inability to sit still, Al went back to work after retirement working security at Catfish Bend Riverboat Casino in Burlington, IA and then Mark Twain Casino, in LaGrange, MO. He officially became a stay at home husband to Jackie in 2017.
Al, Jackie, and their four children were baptized at the Lutheran Church in Galesburg, IL, where Al served as usher for many Sundays. Al and Jackie currently belong to the Immanuel Methodist Church in Canton, MO.
Al is survived by his wife, Jackie Johnson of Canton, MO, four children; Bobbette (Tim) Spurgeon of Kahoka, MO, Sherrie Leake (Jeff Happel) of Quincy, IL, Dobbie (Debbie) Johnson of New London, MO and Tina (Rob) Garkie of Quincy, IL., his brother, Laverne Johnson of Cedar Rapids IA, two step-brothers; Mike Wilson of Deland FL and Mark (Cathy) Wilson of Galesburg IL and step-mother, Darlene Johnson of Galesburg, IL. Ten grandchildren; Brian Leake of Quincy, IL, Adam Leake of Quincy, IL, Stacey Leake of Quincy IL, Jessica (Travis) Pitford of Kahoka, MO, Levi (Erica) Spurgeon of Warrensburg, MO, Jenna (Matt) Bailey of Highland, IL, Keith (Danyel) Garkie of Simpsonville, SC, Becca Garkie of Quincy, IL, Alan Johnson of St.Louis, MO and Aaron (Becky) Johnson of Hannibal, MO and 14 great-grandchildren.
Al was proceeded in death by his mother, Iva Tindel and father, Aaron Johnson
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Methodist Church in Canton, Missouri.
Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Methodist Church at 601 Washington Street in Canton, MO on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
Memorial services were held directly after the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Burial followed at the Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton. The Immanuel Methodist Church provided a lunch for family and friends after the service. Arrangements were made by Vigen Funeral Home in Kahoka, MO.
