Adrian Sean Hendricks, 56, of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa, surrounded by his loved ones.
Sean was born June 9, 1968, in Keokuk the son of Harry and Linda (Shuman) Hendricks.
Sean had life-long disabilities, but he thrived despite them. He was a resident of Hope Haven for over 35 years in Burlington, IA. His caretakers became an extended family. Sean was a happy guy who drew others in with his joy for life and was a blessing to all who knew him. He brought light to everyone's hearts with his endearing personality. He loved listening to music on his tablet and CD player. He loved to play them loudly so everyone could enjoy the music too. He enjoyed watching Westerns, and Hallmark movies. Sean enjoyed shopping, concerts, and people-watching. He loved laughing with, and at, friends and family. Christmas and birthdays were Sean's favorite times of the year because he was getting presents which he had to show everyone he saw. Sean loved Christmas so much at Hope Haven that he had the nickname, Mr. Christmas.
In Sean's final days, he was able to touch even more lives with his situation serving to educate the guardians of other disabled people and their advocates about the steps that need to be taken for their end-of-life care.
Sean's passing will leave a pain in the hearts of his family, friends, and caretakers that can only be eased with the knowledge he is finally free.
Sean is survived by his mother, Linda of Hamilton, IL, his brother, Robert (Malissa) Hendricks of Cabot AR, his sister, Renee (Robert) Von Kiedrowski of Hamilton, IL, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry, his maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Shuman, his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Mary Hendricks, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. February 1, 2025 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
Visitation was held prior to the service from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.
