Obituary

A. Lucille Carlson, 86, of Keokuk, IA, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Keokuk Area Hospital. She was born January 10, 1929 in Keokuk the daughter of Leslie and Leilah Bryant Carlton. On October 17, 1948 she was united in marriage to Donald Richard Carlson in Ft. Madison, IA. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2013. Lucille graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1948. She had retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an assistant supervisor of operators in the late 1960's. Lucille was an active member of First Christian Church in Keokuk. In her younger years, Lucille played the piano for Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Keokuk. Throughout her life she delighted in quilting, knitting and sewing and made clothes for her children. Lucille enjoyed gardening and took the bounty of her garden to the kitchen where she canned a variety of things. She was a wonderful cook and baker. From pot roast to homemade pies, everyone loved to come to her house to eat. She is survived by three daughters, Wanda Carlson of Keokuk, Susan Schmid and her husband Dave of Keokuk and D'Ete Wilson and her husband Terry of Donnellson, IA, three grandchildren, Craig Winn and his wife Alicia, Dawn Lyons and her husband Tim and Danielle York and her husband Paul, one great-granddaughter, Eden Rose York, and two half-brothers, William Briggs and Robert Briggs both of Keokuk, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Tuffy Carlton, Byrd Carlton and Carroll Carlton and one half-sister, Rosa Ann Smith. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 7th 2015 at the Vigen Memorial Home with Reverend David Turner officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to The First Christian Church Sandwich Ministry, American Heart Association or the Keokuk Fire Fighters.
