View Video Tribute Raymond C. Lovell, 88, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at his daughter's home in Fort Madison, IA. He was born on March 7, 1922 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Edward and Bertha Prouse Lovell. On August 21, 1944, Raymond was united in marriage to Betty D. Armstrong in Oakland, CA. She preceded him in death on February 22, 1999. Raymond graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1940. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in WW II from 1941 – 1945. He had been employed with the City of Keokuk Police Department for 25 years as a Patrolman, Detective and Chief of Police. He retired in 1979. Following his retirement from the Police Department, Raymond served as a Magistrate Judge from 1982 – 1987. He was a member of the All Saints Parish in Keokuk, the Elks Lodge and the American Legion Post #41. Raymond was an enthusiastic fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and watching the game show Jeopardy. He is survived by two sons, Cliff Lovell and his wife Teresa of Le Claire, IA and Jerry Lovell and his wife Judy of Washington, Il, two daughters, Lynn Binkley and her husband Mace of Ft. Madison, IA and Raeleen Atwell and her friend John Reimler of Evansdale, IA, eleven grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, one sister, Katie Baugher and her husband Chester of Macomb, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Merle Lovell and one sister, Freda Wyrick. Funeral serviceswere held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 26at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with David Poland officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
