Leroy F. Stepp, 90, of Keokuk, IA died on Monday, February 22, 2010 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on April 2, 1919 in Carthage, IL, the son of Ferdinand and Grace Elizabeth Schlosser Stepp. On April 2, 1948 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Tucker in Keokuk, IA. She survives. Other survivors include four sons, Gary Stepp and his wife June of Keokuk, IA, Rick Stepp and his wife Melody of Keokuk, IA, Shawn Stepp of Keokuk, IA, Michael Stepp of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Lea Hendricks and her husband Ken" Butch" of Keokuk, IA, a special nephew that he raised as one of his own, Everett "Archie" Stepp and his wife Caroline of Hamilton, IL, six grandchildren, Shane Stepp of Ft. Madison, IA, Melisa Ann Anderson and her husband Rob of Keokuk, IA, Mandy Hendricks of Keokuk, IA, Meriann Bowles and her husband Brian Bowles of Rochester, MN, Patrick Hendricks of Iowa City IA, Philip Hendricks of Iowa City, IA, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters. Leroy served in the Army Air Corp during World War II from 1941 until 1945 serving in the North African and Italian Campaigns. He received an American Defense Service Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, four Overseas Service Bars and one Service Stripe Good Conduct Medal. He was employed for over 35 years at Thomas Truck and Caster until the plant closed in 1979 and he retired. He was of the Lutheran Faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on lawn mowers and just being "Pop" to his children and grandchildren. Graveside services with military rites were held at 11 a.m., Friday at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Memorials may be made to the Jackson Township Fire Department and Keokuk Home Health Care.
