Obituary

Guymon Roy "Dutch" Wilsey, 99, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at his home. He was born on February 4, 1907 in Vincennes, IA, the son of Granderson Hill and Elizabeth Meister Wilsey. He married May Viola Johnson on September 14, 1927 at her home in Keokuk, IA. She preceded him in death on October 17, 1962. He married Edith Hederich Rittman on February 25, 1964 in Keokuk, IA. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2004. He lived all of his life in Lee County IA, and received his education in the Lee County Public Schools. He was employed in various occupations before becoming engaged in farming in 1927. He served for ten years as the President of the Keokuk Telephone Company, later forming a Corporation and erecting the lines for the Jackson Co-Op Telephone Association for which he served as President and manager until it was sold to Northwestern Bell. He became a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA on March 31, 1915. He served on the Board as Chairman, Elder, Deacon and the Chairman of the Building Committee. He served on the Graham Hospital Board of Directors for eighteen years and also served on the Graham Hospital Building Committee. He was a fifty year member of the Keokuk Hardin Lodge #29. He was a Past Master and a Masonic Instructor and District Lecturer for the Grand Lodge. He was a 50 year member of the Past High Priest Gate City Chapter #7, the Past Commander of Damascus Commandery #5 and the Kaaba Temple Shrine. He was a Charter Member of the Iowa Association of Past Commanders and a Life Member of Thrice Illustrious Masters. He was also a member of the Past Illustrious Master Zerrubbabel Council #23 R & SM in Burlington, IA. He was the recipient of the Knight of the York Cross of Honor and had served as Secretary. He served on the Board of Instruction of Grand Commandery Knights Templer. He was an Honorary member of the Los Angeles Priory #27 K.Y.C.H. in Los Angeles, CA, a member of the Davenport Consistory A.A.S.B., a Grand Representative of Colorado Knights Templer, an Honorary Member of the Grand Commandery of Illinois, Missouri, Colorado and South Dakota and the Knight Commander of the Temple in the Grand Encampment of Knights Templer of the United States of America. He had the distinction of being the oldest past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of K.T. of Iowa 1969 and the oldest member of the Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine, St. Bartholomew Conclave. He was the past patron of Elmira Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star where he was a 50 year member. He had served as a member of the Rainbow Board for 18 years and had received the Grand Cross of Colors of the Rainbow for Girls. He was the past Watchman of Shepherds, Miriam (Malta) Shrine Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Dutch also enjoyed boating and fishing and traveling to Arizona every winter. He is survived by two daughters, Willeane Sperry Schave of East Moline, Il and Lila Kimball of Warsaw, IL, one step-daughter, Betty Marie Young of Keokuk, IA, five grand-daughters, Denise Sperry LaBatt and her husband David of Pekin, IL, Rheta Sperry of East Moline, IL, Margo Sperry Angell of Indianapolis, IN, Andrea Sperry McBride of Moline, IL, and Cheryl Kimball Mauermann and her husband Mike of West Allis, WI, two grandsons, Stephen Kimball and his wife Vi of Sciota, IL and Allen Kimball and his wife Annette of Tell City, IN, one step-granddaughter, Susan Young Breitenstein and her husband William of Marshfield, MO, great-grandchildren, Michelle Tomlinson, Corey Mills, Kris Sperry, Amy McBride, Rachel Kimball, Alicia Kimball, Sean Kimball, Corey Kimball, Andrew Kimball, Kelly and Hunter Mauermann, step-great-grandchildren, Billy & Jacob Breitenstein, Tricia New and Tammy Hollister, great-great-grandchildren, Krisandra, Kirsi & Kia Sperry, Alexia Tomlinson and Jacob Kimball, step-great-great-grandchildren, Samantha New, Vaylen Tomlinson, Connor & Kathryn Haley, Daegan Quade and Trevin Fox. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Rita Roberts, Irene Jeffers and Ora Johnson, two brothers, Ralph and Ray Wilsey, two grandchildren, Shari Jo and Elli May Kimball, step-grandson, Norman Young and great-grandson, Aaron Mills. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Bill Mitchell and Reverend Terry Mahnke officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home with the family meeting with friends from 6-9 p.m. A public Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital or the Knights Templar Eye Foundation.
