Dorothy I. Davolt, 82, of Argyle, IA, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. She was born on July 22, 1924 in Ft. Madison, IA, the daughter of Grover Turner and Marie M. Eldred Hughes. On March 21, 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harry Davolt in Monticello, MO. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2000. Dorothy graduated from the Ft. Madison High School with the Class of 1941. She had lived most of her life in Ft. Madison and then moved to Argyle where she has resided for the past twenty-five years. She had been employed at Shellor Globe/Metzler Automotive in Keokuk, IA for twenty-eight years retiring on January 20, 1990. She was a faithful member of the Bethel Bible Church in rural Donnellson, IA and was active in the Missions Group of the church. She was a member of Kings Daughters in Ft. Madison and the Local 444 United Rubber Workers. Dorothy loved to read and was an avid fan of crime shows on television. She loved her family very much and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is survived by two daughters, Sue West and her husband Jim of Argyle, IA, Lori Lynn Davolt of Ft. Madison, IA, one son, Rick Davolt of Ft. Madison, IA, four grandchildren, Marlas Shoemaker, Lisa Evans, Kara Davolt and Jamie Hall, six great-grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Sturm, Katy Sturm, Allison Evans, Reilly Shoemaker and Noah Evans, three sisters, Kathaleen Thoman and Marjorie Daugherty of Ft. Madison, IA and JoAnn Jefferson of Des Moines, IA, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Hughes and one sister, Barbara Richardson. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 6th at 4 p.m. at the Bethel Bible Church in rural Donnellson, IA with Reverend Clegguart Mitchell officiating. A private family burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Ft. Madison, IA. Memorials may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House.
