Chester Milligan, 87, of Keokuk, IA, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at his home. He was born on March 24, 1922 in Kirkwood, IL, the son of Otis and Ferol Kerr Milligan. On September 20, 1942, Chester was united in marriage to Dorotha Powers in Kahoka, MO. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2005. He had been employed with the Hannibal Quincy Truckline for over 26 years before his retirement. Following his retirement, he was employed as custodian of Wells Carey Elementary School and the Middle School in Keokuk for 10 years, retiring in June 1985. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Keokuk and was very active in his faith. He enjoyed fishing, reading and raising tomatoes in his garden. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by four sons, Gerald Milligan and his wife Mable of Chicago, IL, Ralph Milligan and his wife Jackie of Columbia, MO, Ronald Milligan and his wife Jane of Harrisonville, MO and Gregory Milligan and his wife Dorothy of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Beverly Jones and her husband Thomas of Keokuk, IA, nineteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one sister, Barbara Clinton of Warsaw, IL. He was also preceded in death by one son, Emory James Milligan in 1981, one grandson, two brothers, Ralph and Wilford Milligan and six sisters, Violet Testman, Vera James, Darlene Garrett, Fern Brown, Jean Doran and Shirley Milligan. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Ft. Madison, IA with Elder Ronald Fish officiating. There was no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
